Tesla Offers One-Month FSD Trial Amid Sales and Safety Concerns

Customers to receive one month trial of Tesla’s driver-assist technology, announces Reuters

Tesla is offering a one-month trial of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology to both new and existing customers in the United States, as announced by CEO Elon Musk on social media platform X. The company’s website also confirms this offer. Additionally, Tesla staff are required to provide demonstrations of FSD to new buyers and owners of serviced vehicles, according to verified emails from a Tesla source.

The move comes as Tesla faces pressure on sales and margins due to price competition and softening demand. Despite years of promises from Musk regarding achieving full autonomy, Tesla’s driver assistant software is still closely scrutinized for safety and marketing compliance by regulatory agencies.

Tesla has also had to recall nearly all of its 2 million vehicles on US roads in December to install new safeguards. This action reflects the company’s commitment to addressing safety concerns and improving the performance of its self-driving systems.

The FSD feature is an add-on priced at $12,000 that allows vehicles to navigate city streets with minimal human intervention. Although Tesla refers to its driver-assisting systems as Autopilot and Full Self-Driving, it emphasizes that these features do not make its vehicles autonomous and still require active driver supervision.
