The American Red Cross’ Blood Saves Lives Fighting Cancer initiative has received a $3,000 grant from the Memorial Health Foundation. The grant was awarded to support the collection and processing of blood products for patients fighting cancer in the region. Sharon Kesselring, executive director of the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, expressed excitement about the partnership with the Memorial Health System.

The American Red Cross collects blood throughout the entire area, not just within the Memorial Health System. This blood is processed and made available for patients when they need it. Blood transfusions can be crucial in the cancer treatment process, providing relief from symptoms of chemotherapy treatments. Julie Dye and Jill Deming presented the grant on behalf of the foundation at Memorial Health System’s first blood drive of 2024.

The next Memorial Health Foundation grant cycle opens on July 1. More information can be found online at mhsystem.org/Foundation.
