UNM Inaugurates Truman Health Services Clinic in Roswell

UNM’s Truman Health Services Clinic has recently opened its doors in the City of Roswell, providing much-needed healthcare services to people across southeastern New Mexico. The facility specializes in HIV and sexual health care, offering primary care as well as testing and prevention for sexually transmitted infections.

HIV rates in Chaves County have increased by 52% over the past 16 years, highlighting the need for accessible healthcare services in this area. Dr. Michelle Iandioro, medical director for UNM Truman Health Services, emphasizes the importance of access to health care and resources for prevention and treatment, especially in areas with limited resources. Before the new clinic opened, Roswell relied on a mobile unit that provided HIV treatment once a month.

The goal of the new clinic is to provide people with the help they need closer to home without having to travel long distances. Dr. Gary Mlady, interim CEO & president of the UNM medical group, stresses the importance of providing care to all New Mexicans, regardless of their location. With the addition of the Truman Health Services Clinic and center for telehealth, UNM is expanding its reach and ability to provide necessary care throughout Roswell. This development is seen as a step in addressing the healthcare needs of the community.
