Former Patriots running back retires from football at age 27

Damien Harris, a talented running back who spent five seasons in the NFL, announced his retirement from the game on Monday night. The 27-year-old had played for the New England Patriots before spending one season with the Buffalo Bills.

Harris was selected by the Patriots in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft and saw limited playing time in his rookie year. However, he quickly emerged as a standout player, becoming the starting running back in his second season. In 2021, he had an impressive year, rushing for nearly 1,000 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns. Despite his success, injuries eventually led to his replacement by Rhamondre Stevenson towards the end of the 2022 season.

In an Instagram post announcing his retirement, Harris expressed gratitude for his time in the game and thanked all those who supported him along the way. He also recognized Nick Saban and Bill Belichick as two of the greatest coaches he had ever worked with. Reflecting on his career, Harris said that he was proud of everything he had accomplished and grateful for all that football had taught him.
