Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Helsinki Stock Exchange Achieves Gender Diversity in CEOs

Women have surpassed men in becoming CEOs of listed companies

The Helsinki Stock Exchange has made significant strides towards greater gender diversity among CEOs of listed companies. In 2015, there were more CEOs named Juha than women, but now, according to recent calculations, there are more women CEOs than Juha CEOs. This progress can be attributed to the efforts of responsibility consultant Kaisa Hernberg, who found that there are ten women as managing directors of listed companies compared to only five Juhas. Additionally, there are five Mikkos and three each of Artoja, Esoja, Mikoja, Petrja, Pekoja, and Timoja.

Despite this achievement, Hernberg believes there is still room for improvement in achieving greater gender diversity among CEOs. However, the Union of Women’s Affairs’ 2015 calculations showed that at that time more listed companies were led by men named Juha rather than women. Unfortunately, the Central Chamber of Commerce’s annual review of female managers indicates that the number of female CEOs in listed companies may have decreased since last year.
